Giampaolo Vannini, known as "Geppo", is an Italian motorcycle racer originally from Volterra, Tuscany, whose career began in 1980. In that year, he participated in the Italian TT4 track championship, obtaining six victories out of six races, which earned him the title of 1980 Tuscan TT4 Champion and the title of Italian Vice-Champion.
In 1983, Vannini came close to winning the Italian Championship, racing a Laverda 600 TT2 followed by Augusto Brettoni. During his career, he raced a variety of bikes, including Aspes, Villa, Laverda and Yamaha 250.
After finishing his racing career, Giampaolo started his restaurant business with his wife Monica, managing the Osteria La Pace in Volterra. This restaurant is known not only for the quality of its cuisine, but also for its unique atmosphere that combines a passion for gastronomy with a passion for motorcycling. Customers have the opportunity to share stories and anecdotes related to his career as a pilot with Giampaolo, while admiring photos and trophies on display in the restaurant.
Despite his commitment to catering, Vannini continued to participate in motorcycle competitions, particularly in the Italian Hill Climb Championship (CIVS). In 2018, he competed in the Vintage 94 class, obtaining third place with his Honda, behind Massimiliano Magnani and Andrea Orselli.
His dedication to motorcycling has also been recognized by local institutions. In 2023, Giampaolo received an award for sporting merit from the Municipality of Volterra, a testament to his contribution to the world of motorcycle racing and the pride he represents for the local community.
In addition to racing, Vannini has held organizational and management roles in the world of motorcycling. In 2019, as president, he gave an end-of-year speech for his team, highlighting the importance of passion and commitment in the sport.
Giampaolo Vannini's career is an example of how a passion for two wheels can evolve over time, from racing on the track to promoting motorcycle culture through catering and event organization. His story inspires both motorcycle enthusiasts and those who recognize the value of dedication and perseverance in pursuing their dreams.
